The School of Valparaíso went through a glorious phase of playing games in the 1970s. They played “Membrana Aerofuselada” in 1992 in order to celebrate their 40th anniversary as an architecture school. There were a variety of games, both competitive and non-competitive, and most of them were invented by the faculty and students. Once I began studying these activities the “props” grabbed my interest: costumes, rolling contraptions, stilts, and this “membrane.” Continue reading

This past Saturday I caught Magdalena Atria’s MAVI show, “Love and Space” and was thrilled to see these works. Atria actually showed these reed-rendered sculptures a couple of years ago in a show dedicated to platonic solids. As an art historian, I feel the best way to understand platonic solids is through visuals.
